Huh? What website are you posting from? Are you on ImpulseDriven or WinCustomize or JoeUser?

These are all Stardock's sites. So if you have a Stardock.NET account, you're golden

It's your conscience speaking. Lsten carefully.

Your name is DethAdder

You came from where everybody else came from.

You arrived here through the magical powers of desktop customization.

This is Stardockia. Welcome to our land.

Now that you've arrived, you won't be able to go back.

Muahhahaha

No, he didn't.

No, he didn't.

You know me too well . Actually got here through many battles with the Drengin in GC2. Finding the Desktop customization was a bonus after the fact.

Slowly but surely Zubaz's insidious plot unfolds: Despite Hurricane Ike, Despite nonfunctioning "Edit" tabs, despite "Impulse" updates he has succeeded! Now putradi (a citizen of who knows where) has been assimilated to the point where he can't type his own URL!

This dastardly plot must cease, Zubaz!

Soon there'll be good, solid people from WC like 2 of 3 who will be enslaved into making skins propagating Zubaz.

There'll even be food named after him like "HamBorgers".

Are we all to be assimilated without a fight?

desktop customization
You know I've been wondering about this for awhile now.

I was tempted to bring this up in Frogboy's post about "Impulse skinning is coming" but you know how defensive those WC folks get about Impulse so I figured it wasn't worth the grief.

Anyway what is all this skinning and desktop customization about anyway? To me it appears to be nothing more than mere cosmetics. Is there any functional purpose for this stuff and do people actually spend money on it? It all seems rather vain to me. It's like how my wife chooses a car. Apparently the only thing that matters are colors and pretty graphics.

I personally find beauty in simplicity. Form follows function. All else is superfluous.

Yea, some of it is just cool looking, but others are of an ease of use/UI enhancement nature. Object Dock+ has just about entirely replaced my need for a taskbar, for instance. And little widgets for weather or stock quotes or whatever come in handy for those that crave the info. I only have a couple so far so I can't really speak for all the Object Desktop stuff, but it has organized me a little bit more(and boy, could I use it )

I thought pretty much the same. Tried out the ObjectDock free version, and... well... bought it. It actually simplifies Windows, since it gives YOU more control how things are displayed and organised.

Taskbar? Don't need it, hide it. But I want to keep the system tray. Objectdock does the trick. I don't want lots of messy shortcuts lying around on my desktop, but I also don't want to work through the enormous tree that is the Windows startmenu. Objectdock with drawers allows me to keep shortcuts organised in logical groupings and autohides them until I actually want to use them.

I'm a software developer, I like things clean, functional and simple. Surprisingly (and it really WAS a surprise to me), Objectdock accomplishes exactly that.

Depending on what category you put the blog post in it can show up on a plethora of SD sites. Personal Computing is one category that shows across a lot of sites, while some(like the Metaverse section of GC2) are limited to their own site only.

Hmm .. Cool .. Guess I'll be here a lot from now on .. thanks ...

Come on now, are you kidding? Honestly, I'm not being a smart ass, just wondering.

It is all right not to either like or appreciate being able to customize your desktop or your user interface and maybe even help improve your productivety.

I have the same feeling when it comes to folks talking about games,
